New Delhi, March 21 (NationPress) An 85-year-old man has passed away after being hit by a speeding motorcycle in a devastating hit-and-run incident in Mumbai's Worli area on Friday.
The rider of the motorcycle fled the accident site, leaving the elderly victim, Balraj Parmanand Mehra, with severe injuries.
Mehra was rushed to a local hospital for urgent care, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The Dadar Police have initiated a case against the motorcyclist involved.
Details from the Dadar Police Station reveal that the tragic event took place as Mehra, a businessman, was returning home after overseeing his private property.
A motorcycle, operating at high speed, struck him from behind, resulting in him falling to the ground.
The rider failed to stop or assist and instead fled the scene.
The police have filed a case against the unidentified individual under sections 106 (causing death by negligence) and 281 (rash driving) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), alongside the Motor Vehicles Act. Authorities are actively pursuing the accused.
After reviewing CCTV footage from the scene, the Mumbai Police successfully identified the motorcycle operator as 22-year-old Yash Nandkumar Gaokar, a resident of the Worli Police Colony. It was later disclosed that Gaokar is the offspring of a Mumbai Police constable.
Subsequent to the identification, the Dadar Police brought Yash Gaokar in for questioning. However, after the preliminary inquiry, he was not immediately arrested. Instead, the police issued a notice to him, requesting his cooperation with the ongoing investigation.
"We have pinpointed the accused and will ensure a comprehensive investigation is carried out. We have instructed Gaokar to appear for further questioning," stated Mumbai Police.
