New Delhi, Nov 10 (NationPress) A murder suspect was injured during a police encounter that occurred late at night on Ghoghachatti–Baragaon Road within the jurisdiction of Maniyar Police Station in Uttar Pradesh's Ballia district. According to law enforcement officials, the suspect opened fire on the police team when they attempted to apprehend him, leading to the police returning fire. A bullet struck the suspect in the leg, causing injury.

The confrontation unfolded late Sunday night as a police unit was engaged in routine checks in the vicinity. When officers noticed a motorcycle speeding towards them, they signaled for the rider to stop. Instead of halting, the motorcyclist attempted to evade capture, prompting a short pursuit. When the police managed to corner him, he allegedly discharged his firearm at the officers. In self-defense, the police fired back, resulting in the suspect's injury.

Upon being apprehended, the wounded individual identified himself as Abhinandan alias Abhidendran Rajbharki, a local resident. During questioning, he admitted to murdering a young man in Mahlipur village within the Maniyar police station area just days prior, utilizing an axe to commit the crime.

The police seized a pistol, a live round, and an empty shell from his possession.

The injured suspect was swiftly transported to a medical facility for treatment, and further legal measures are underway, as confirmed by the police.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Ballia), Kripa Shankar, briefed the media, stating: “Yesterday, a tragic incident occurred in Janpad Ballia under Thana Maniyar, where Chandan Rajbharki was brutally murdered. In connection with this, a murder case was filed, and investigations were in progress. Today, the police received intel indicating the primary suspect was fleeing on a motorcycle. When the police confronted him, he opened fire, and during the exchange, he was shot in the leg.”

He further added, “The suspect is Abhidendran Rajbharki, the main person of interest in the murder case. Upon searching him, we found a pistol, a live bullet, and an empty cartridge. He has been sent to the hospital, and necessary legal actions are being taken. The police presence remains at the scene.”

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the case, exploring potential links between the accused and other criminal offenses.
