New Delhi, May 28 (NationPress) The Murid air base in Pakistan experienced significant destruction during the Indian Air Force (IAF) strikes on May 10. Recent satellite imagery has uncovered damage not only to its above-ground structures but also to its underground facilities, indicating the extent of the assault.
High-resolution satellite images released by the Intel Lab on X display a three-meter wide crater located just 30 meters from one of the air base's two entrances. Previous satellite images had already documented damage to the buildings and rooftops at this critical location, known for its role in housing Pakistani drones and missiles.
Defense analyst Damien Symon shared these new images on X, highlighting the destruction at Pakistan’s essential air bases, which includes both structural and underground damage details.
"This complex is heavily fortified with double fencing, watchtowers, and access control, making it a high-value target. It may have been designed to endure bombardments and could have served as storage for specialized equipment or personnel shelter," remarked Damien Symon, a geo-intelligence researcher at Intel Lab.
Murid air base operates as a forward base for Pakistan, situated just 150 kilometers from the Line of Control in Chakwal, and supports the Sargodha and Nur Khan air bases in Rawalpindi, both pivotal for Pakistan’s air force operations.
Evidence of damage to the underground complex at Murid air base is corroborated by satellite images taken before and after the May 10 strikes.
A satellite image from April 16 showed no damage, but the images post-strikes reveal significant structural issues.
"Structural damage is apparent at this facility, believed to function as a command-and-control center near the UAV complex of the airbase. A section of the roof has collapsed, and the outer walls show clear signs of deterioration," Damien Symon stated while sharing the damage pictures.
