Mumbai, March 5 (NationPress) The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) has submitted a motion to the legislative secretariat advocating for the removal of Neelam Gorhe, the Deputy Chairperson of the Maharashtra Legislative Council, citing her loss of confidence from the assembly.

The motion was endorsed by the Leader of the Opposition in the state council and Shiv Sena UBT leader Ambadas Danve, along with nine other members of the Maha Vikas Aghadi, in accordance with section 183 (G) of the Constitution and rule 11 of the Maharashtra Legislative Council's regulations.

“The MVA has presented the motion to the legislative secretariat, asserting that Neelam Gorhe no longer retains the confidence of the house. It is anticipated that this matter will be addressed before the conclusion of the budget session. All ten legislators endorsing the motion will stand to present their case when the motion is discussed, advocating for Gorhe’s dismissal,” remarked Anil Parab, a Shiv Sena UBT legislator and former minister.

Within the 78-member Maharashtra Legislative Council, the ruling MahaYuti holds 32 seats while the Maha Vikas Aghadi comprises 17 members. The distribution of party strength includes BJP with 19, Shiv Sena with 6, NCP with 7, Congress with 7, Shiv Sena UBT with 7, NCP-SP with 3, and independents with 3. Presently, there are 52 active members, with 26 positions unfilled pending local and civic elections.

The motion initiated by the Maha Vikas Aghadi follows Gorhe's recent controversial statements regarding the Uddhav Thackeray-led Sena, where she asserted that “in the Uddhav Thackeray-led Sena, no one received a position without being offered two Mercedes cars. This is a fact.”

After transitioning to the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, Gorhe noted, “when Balasaheb Thackeray was alive, he maintained oversight everywhere. After his passing, the Sena began to decline. When Uddhav Thackeray took the Chief Minister role, the Sainiks were elated, believing Balasaheb Thackeray’s son had attained power. However, soon issues emerged…even MLAs were denied meetings.”

She criticized Uddhav Thackeray during the recently held 98th Akhil Bharatiya Sahitya Sammelan.

This is not the first instance of such a motion being raised. When Gorhe was part of the Thackeray faction, the BJP had previously introduced a similar motion. However, following her defection to the Eknath Shinde camp, the BJP retracted its motion.

Since joining the Shinde faction, Gorhe has retained her position as Deputy Chairperson, despite numerous instances of intense debates between her and particularly the Shiv Sena UBT, alongside other opposing parties.
