New Delhi, June 25 (NationPress) A national from Myanmar, who had been residing illegally in India using a fake identity, was apprehended at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai.
The suspect was caught during immigration checks when officials grew suspicious due to his inability to communicate or understand Hindi.
As reported by the Sahar Police Station in Maharashtra, the man had been living in Delhi under the alias Boitlunga Saimon and had even managed to acquire an Indian passport.
His documents indicated that he was born in Aizawl, Mizoram. However, during standard questioning prior to boarding a flight to Malaysia, immigration officials identified various inconsistencies in his statements.
Despite asserting he was from Mizoram, he could not provide even basic details about the state. His complete lack of understanding of Hindi and reliance solely on English heightened suspicions.
Following extensive interrogation, he revealed that his actual name is U Thang Soe Lyan, a 34-year-old citizen of Myanmar.
The accused confessed to fleeing Myanmar in 2019 due to political turmoil and military crackdowns following anti-government demonstrations.
Facing an arrest warrant in his home country, he unlawfully crossed into India via Mizoram and eventually settled in Delhi.
While in Delhi, he connected with a passport agent named Talib, who allegedly assisted him in obtaining counterfeit Indian documents, including a passport, allowing him to travel internationally.
Authorities are currently probing the network that enabled his illegal residency and the forgery of documents.
