Aizawl, March 7 (NationPress) - A collaborative operation by the Assam Rifles and local police has resulted in the apprehension of a Myanmar citizen and the confiscation of 19 air rifles along with 75,000 pellets in Siaha district, located in southern Mizoram, officials reported on Saturday.
Authorities indicated that the suspect was taken into custody after security forces uncovered a substantial quantity of air rifles and ammunition during a routine vehicle inspection in Siaha district, which has an unfenced border with Myanmar.
The operation was executed based on specific intelligence. A Mobile Vehicle Check Post (MVCP) was jointly set up by the Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police personnel at the Lungbun Police outpost in the Niawhtlang region.
The team intercepted a Tata Yodha vehicle driven by the Myanmar national.
A detailed search of the vehicle revealed 19 air rifles, consisting of 18 NX200 models (4.5mm) and one PX100 model (4.5mm), along with 75,000 pellets stored in 150 boxes of the Excite brand. Additional items confiscated included a telescope designed for an air rifle, a nitro piston, a spring for an air rifle, and a Redmi 15C mobile device.
The driver was recognized as Khar Lian, aged 36, a resident of Matupi in Myanmar.
