Authorities apprehended a Myanmar national along with three female drug traffickers in connection with these raids within the last 24 hours, as reported by officials on Tuesday.
In one operation, a Myanmar national was detained in the Champhai district of eastern Mizoram on Monday night, where authorities recovered 20,200 highly potent methamphetamine tablets, weighing a total of 2.22 kg.
The confiscated methamphetamine, commonly referred to as Yaba or party tablets, is valued at approximately Rs 6.67 crore.
In a separate incident, acting on intelligence, Assam Rifles personnel initiated a search operation from their battalion headquarters in Lunglei. They intercepted three women in Theiriat village, located in Lunglei district, which shares an unfenced border with Bangladesh.
A comprehensive search revealed 117.60 grams of heroin, worth nearly Rs 88.20 lakh.
The three detained women are local residents of the Lunglei district in southern Mizoram.
The Assam Rifles have handed over the seized drugs and the apprehended individuals to Mizoram Police for further investigation and legal action.
In related news, various drugs valued at Rs 4.29 crore were destroyed by the Young Mizo Association (YMA) Central Anti-Drugs Squad (CADS) during a ceremony on Monday, attended by Chief Minister Lalduhoma.
The drugs confiscated by CADS between March 15 and June consist of heroin, highly addictive methamphetamine tablets, illicit alcohol, codeine-based cough syrup, and dry ganja (marijuana).
CADS has detained 809 individuals in connection with drug-related offenses.
The YMA is a pivotal civil society organization and has significantly influenced various facets of Mizo society.
The Chin state of Myanmar serves as a critical hub for smuggling various drugs, exotic wildlife, and other contraband through six districts of Mizoram, namely Champhai, Siaha, Lawngtlai, Hnahthial, Saitual, and Serchhip.
Given that Mizoram shares a 510 km unfenced border with Myanmar and a 318 km unfenced border with Bangladesh, it stands as a primary corridor for drug trafficking from Myanmar.
