New Delhi, Jan 19 (NationPress) Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare and Chemicals and Fertilizers, J. P. Nadda, formally launched multiple initiatives from the Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering and Technology (CIPET), Ahmedabad on Sunday.
The Union Minister's inauguration encompassed projects such as the Calibration Laboratory at CIPET Ahmedabad; the Centre for Skilling and Technical Support and Plastic Waste Management Centre at Bhagalpur, along with a boys’ hostel at CIPET Madurai, during an event held at CIPET Ahmedabad.
The occasion witnessed the presence of the Secretary of the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals (C&PC), along with senior officials from the Ministry and CIPET, students, industry leaders, and faculty members from CIPET Ahmedabad. Additionally, public representatives, students, and faculty from CIPET centres in Bhagalpur and Madurai participated online.
The Union Minister commended the exemplary efforts of CIPET in boosting technical expertise and innovation through continual advancement. He emphasized that the industry’s future growth hinges on achieving a balance between skill, speed, and scale, urging CIPET to pursue this objective. Initiatives like Startup India and Standup India, among other Central Government schemes, are designed to enhance technical proficiency in the nation, with CIPET playing a crucial role in the petrochemical sector.
Nadda encouraged students and faculty to contribute to realizing the vision of transforming India into a $5 trillion economy, assuring them of the Government's unwavering policy support. He urged the institute to further cultivate its relationships with industry leaders, fostering a mutually beneficial partnership that addresses the skill enhancement needs of alumni.
The Union Minister expressed contentment with CIPET's self-sufficiency in resource generation, noting that the newly launched projects will significantly impact the nation's economy.
The Calibration Laboratory at the Ahmedabad Centre is aimed at guaranteeing precision in industrial measurement applications. Funded primarily by the Gujarat Government, this project has a total expenditure of Rs 1.43 crore. The laboratory is outfitted with state-of-the-art equipment and specializes in calibrating critical parameters, enabling industries to enhance operational efficiency through precise measurements.
The Centre for Skilling and Technical Support at Bhagalpur, established at a total cost of Rs 40.10 crore—equally funded by the Central and Bihar Governments—will offer long-term courses in Diploma in Plastics Technology and Diploma in Plastics Mould Technology, in addition to skill development programs in injection moulding and plastic processing.
The Plastic Waste Management Centre at Bhagalpur aims to showcase various plastic recycling techniques while providing effective waste management solutions. It seeks to develop eco-friendly, cost-effective recyclates, support start-ups in the sector, raise awareness of recycling best practices, and establish digital demonstration facilities for waste management.
The boys’ hostel at CIPET Madurai, constructed at a cost of Rs 6.40 crore, financed by the Central Government as a grant-in-aid, has a capacity to accommodate 120 individuals, thereby enhancing the centre's ability to train a larger number of students.
