Patna, Nov 26 (NationPress) Former MP Ajay Nishad has received significant relief from the Special MP-MLA Court at Sakara, Muzaffarpur, as he has been acquitted in a 2019 case concerning alleged breaches of the Model Code of Conduct during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
The case was linked to an incident on April 18, 2019, when Nishad -- then the BJP candidate from Muzaffarpur -- was traveling with his convoy near Panch Prithvi Chowk around 11:50 a.m.
As per the complaint, the convoy consisted of approximately ten vehicles adorned with banners and promotional materials, which were alleged to violate the Model Code of Conduct.
Assistant Engineer Vijay Kumar Pandey, acting as the duty magistrate at that time, filed a written complaint with senior officials and subsequently lodged an FIR outlining the supposed violations and detailing the vehicles and materials involved.
Following a lengthy judicial process lasting nearly six years, the court determined that there was no substantial evidence to substantiate the allegations.
Ajay Nishad's lawyer, Bachcha Patel, stated that the court's ruling has officially cleared the former MP of all charges.
In response to the verdict, Ajay Nishad expressed that the decision has reinforced his confidence in the judicial system.
This ruling ignited celebrations among BJP workers and Nishad’s supporters, who voiced their joy over his acquittal.
Ajay Nishad, who was victorious in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections on a BJP ticket, has experienced a series of significant political changes in recent years. In 2024, the BJP chose not to field him for the Lok Sabha polls, opting instead for Raj Bhushan Nishad from Muzaffarpur. This decision led Ajay Nishad to resign from the party. He went on to contest the parliamentary election on a Congress ticket but was defeated by the BJP’s Raj Bhushan Nishad.
As the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections approach, Ajay Nishad -- alongside his wife Rama Nishad -- has rejoined the BJP.
The party acknowledged the family's return by nominating Rama Nishad as its candidate from Muzaffarpur. She triumphed in the Assembly election and was subsequently inducted into the Nitish Kumar cabinet, where she currently serves as the Minister of Backward and Extremely Backward Caste Welfare.
