Patna, May 3 (NationPress) Former Mokama MLA and influential leader Anant Kumar Singh, popularly known as ‘Chhote Sarkar’, has been found not guilty by the MP-MLA court of Munger regarding a case tied to the breach of the model code of conduct during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
The ruling was issued on Saturday by Special Court Judge and Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate First Kumar Pankaj, who dismissed the case due to insufficient evidence.
The proceedings and verdict were carried out through video conferencing, as Singh continues to be held at Beur Central Jail in Patna due to safety issues.
The case, registered as Dharhara Police Station Case No. 84/2019, alleged that Anant Singh and 80 to 100 of his associates held an election rally with a convoy of 16 vehicles without the necessary permissions on March 31, 2019, supporting his wife and Congress candidate Neelam Devi.
This incident occurred in the Dharhara area, within the Jamalpur Assembly constituency, and was recorded on video by the monitoring team led by Zonal Officer Abul Hussain.
Despite numerous individuals reportedly involved, only Anant Singh faced charges, and the prosecution could not present adequate evidence to substantiate the allegations.
While Anant Singh has been acquitted in this instance, he will remain in Beur Central Jail. He is incarcerated in connection with Barh P.S. Case No. 389/2019 and is facing accusations related to an alleged shooting incident in Nauranga-Jalalpur village on January 22, 2025.
Singh has been imprisoned at Beur since the shooting occurrence. He and the Sonu-Monu gang were involved in a shootout that exchanged over 200 rounds of ammunition.
Nauranga-Jalalpur is the hometown of Sonu-Monu, and Anant Singh visited the area to reclaim a property that he claims was wrongfully seized by the gang.
Recently, Singh was granted a one-day parole to attend a family wedding and expressed optimism about receiving relief from the High Court in the next 15-20 days.
