Chandrababu Naidu directs TDP cadres on 45-day door-to-door outreach from Monday
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) national president N. Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday, 26 July directed party cadres to launch a 45-day door-to-door campaign beginning Monday, urging them to communicate the coalition government's two-year achievements directly to households across the state. The directive came during a teleconference Naidu held with senior TDP leaders and elected representatives ahead of the statewide outreach drive.
Campaign Scope and Directives
Naidu instructed the entire party machinery — including Ministers, Members of Parliament, MLAs, and MLCs — to participate in the outreach programme without exception. He provided detailed guidelines on the key governance milestones to be conveyed to the public and emphasised that cadres must address any doubts raised by citizens in a clear and accessible manner.
'The previous government plummeted from 151 seats to 11 due to its grave errors and destructive actions. We secured a strong majority thanks to the struggles waged by the TDP and its alliance partners, as well as the strategies adopted during the elections,' Naidu said during the teleconference.
2024 Election Mandate and Coalition Record
Naidu recalled that the people delivered what he described as a historic mandate in the 2024 elections, with the coalition achieving a strike rate of 94 per cent in seats contested and securing 57 per cent of the popular vote. He said the campaign must reinforce the message that the alliance is now delivering on the promises it made to voters at the time.
He underlined that the coalition government has been governing with constant reference to public opinion and must continue to do so. This comes amid preparations for upcoming local body elections, in which Naidu said the coalition must aim to win every seat.
Focus on Youth and Opposition Critique
The Chief Minister specifically asked cadres to highlight the coalition government's initiatives for youth welfare, contrasting them with what he characterised as the record of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) — referred to by Naidu as the 'Axe party' — under the previous administration. He alleged that despite suffering a crushing electoral defeat, the YSRCP continues to 'sow discord in society.'
'The priority the alliance government accords to the future and aspirations of the youth must be communicated to the public. The Axe party acted with the overconfidence that money alone would guarantee victory; however, public affection cannot be won merely through money,' Naidu said.
Leadership and Accountability Message
Naidu used the occasion to push back against a culture of passive loyalty within the party. 'I do not want mere followers. The party needs leaders. One must cultivate the skills to solve problems and enhance leadership qualities,' he said, urging booth-level conveners to work with a heightened sense of responsibility.
While expressing confidence that the coalition will return to power in the next state elections, he cautioned cadres against complacency and asked them to avoid conduct that could alienate voters. 'The coalition government must continue for the sake of the state, and this message needs to be conveyed clearly to everyone,' he said. All eyes will now be on how effectively the ground-level machinery translates this directive into visible outreach over the next 45 days.
