Ahmedabad, May 18 (NationPress) The Narmada Police in Gujarat have initiated a thorough investigation following alarming allegations made by a Member of Parliament, Mansukh Vasava, during a District Coordination Committee meeting about fraudulent income certificates circulating in the area.
The MP pointed out that numerous counterfeit documents have reportedly been fabricated and utilized to obtain benefits such as old age pensions, widow pensions, and potentially even assistance under the Right to Information (RTI) scheme.
The issue not only involves false claims but also raises suspicions about the possible involvement of intermediaries, private agents, or even government officials who might be aiding this deceptive practice.
The Superintendent of Police (SP) for Narmada district has established a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to look into the situation. The Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP), who is leading the SIT, confirmed that approximately 700 documents have been scrutinized thus far, and 100 individuals were interrogated at the Rajpipla Police Station as part of the ongoing inquiry.
“If these documents are verified as fraudulent, those responsible for submitting them will be deemed suspects in the case,” stated the DySP.
Notably, some of the alleged suspects have already sought anticipatory bail from the district court. The Narmada Police have raised objections to these requests, and the situation is currently under judicial review.
The SIT is also investigating whether any government officials or private agents were involved in the creation of these fraudulent documents.
If culpable, their names will be included in the list of suspects.
Authorities are also examining whether these forged documents were used to exploit government welfare programs, including old age pensions, widow pensions, or benefits under the RTI scheme.
The police have assured that there is no political influence in the investigation and that they are dedicated to conducting the inquiry fairly and impartially.
“Justice will be upheld. No one, irrespective of their position or connections, will escape accountability if proven guilty,” concluded the DySP.
