Imphal, Nov 9 (NationPress) The upcoming National Tribal Film Festival in Manipur, scheduled from November 12 to 15, will showcase an impressive lineup of 23 tribal films from nine different states. As stated by Manipur's Additional Chief Secretary Anurag Bajpai, this festival is organized in conjunction with the celebration of Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh, and is aimed at promoting and honoring the rich cinematic and cultural heritage of various tribal communities across India.
The festival will take place at the City Convention Centre and the Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS) in Imphal. Bajpai revealed that the event will feature films from states such as Maharashtra, Odisha, West Bengal, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Manipur.
The selection will include six feature films, two documentaries, 14 short films, and a unique animation film produced by the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), highlighting the life of Rani Gaidinliu.
Attendees will have the opportunity to meet 16 national guests, 27 state delegates, and representatives from five tribal film forums and associations. The festival will also host two master classes, panel discussions, and two 'In-Conversation' sessions with renowned filmmakers and cultural specialists.
The opening ceremony on November 12 will kick off with film screenings, while the closing ceremony on November 15, which coincides with the observance of Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh Pakhwada and the birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, will include floral tributes, cultural performances, and a special film screening.
Furthermore, a senior official from the Tribal Affairs and Hills Department mentioned that Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh is a government initiative to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of the tribal leader Bhagwan Birsa Munda, celebrated from November 15, 2024, to November 15, 2025, honoring the contributions of India's tribal communities.
