Srinagar, March 1 (NationPress) The spokesman for the National Conference (NC), Tanvir Sadiq, who is also an MLA, has expressed that the NC government, led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, remains hopeful for the prompt restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.

In a conversation with reporters on Saturday, Tanvir conveyed his optimism regarding the timely restoration of statehood.

When IANS inquired whether the NC had alternative plans if statehood were not reinstated, the NC spokesman remarked, “Why discuss plan B or plan C when we are confident about the restoration of statehood to J&K?”

He noted that the central government is expected to tackle this matter in the upcoming months. He emphasized that the dual power structure in J&K is leading to administrative difficulties, and fulfilling the significant mandate given by the electorate during the assembly elections is essential.

Tanvir criticized the PDP, led by Mehbooba Mufti, for contributing to the current situation. “They have no moral authority to instruct us on our actions. We will address every commitment outlined by the NC in its manifesto,” he stated.

He posed a question regarding the BJP's decade-long governance in J&K, asking why they failed to implement bills like prohibiting alcohol.

He alleged that the PDP and BJP are aligned and are obstructing the proper functioning of the assembly.

A verbal conflict has erupted between the PDP and NC concerning the alcohol prohibition in J&K. NC MLA Ahsan Pardesi has submitted a notice for a private bill in the upcoming budget session commencing March 3, which seeks to prohibit the sale and purchase of alcohol in J&K.

The opposition PDP has also supported the proposal. Mehbooba Mufti's daughters, Iltija and Irtiqa Mufti, are leading a public campaign to garner support for an alcohol ban in J&K.

J&K is recognized as a tourist hub, with the first wine shop established in Kashmir during British colonial rule.
