Jammu, Feb 20 (NationPress) J&K Congress president Tariq Hameed Karra refuted any notions of discord with the governing National Conference (NC), asserting that the Congress is an integral part of the NC-led J&K administration.
He emphasized that both the NC and the Congress are committed to the restoration of statehood, while the Congress also highlights issues raised by the public to the government.
“We bring these matters to the government's attention for resolution. Being part of the government allows us to advise and voice the people's concerns,” he noted.
Karra anticipates the establishment of a coordination committee comprising members of both Congress and NC shortly, aimed at eliminating any misunderstandings.
On February 13, Congress initiated a 15-day campaign in the Jammu region advocating for the immediate restoration of statehood and has organized worker conventions across five districts.
He mentioned that while restoration of statehood is not the primary concern for the Congress, it is indeed a crucial issue for the people of J&K.
“Despite commitments made by PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, there has been no progress. The BJP leaders, despite a significant mandate in Jammu division, remain silent. They owe the public an explanation for their lack of action regarding statehood restoration,” he asserted.
Karra pointed out that, even with the establishment of the NC-led government in October last year, many bureaucrats continue to operate in an authoritarian manner reminiscent of the previous L-G administration.
He further claimed that democracy has not been reinstated in J&K, even post-elections.
“While the BJP claims that conditions have improved in J&K, a prevailing mindset indicates that democracy remains unestablished,” he remarked.
He called for solutions to public issues such as electricity supply, water, tourism promotion, employment generation, and the regularization of daily wage workers and special police officers (SPOs).
Additionally, he defended his son’s participation in an official meeting led by Health and Education Minister Sakina Itoo in Srinagar recently.
“I was in Jammu and therefore designated my son as constituency in-charge. This has been a precedent and is not a new occurrence,” he asserted.
Despite the Congress-NC alliance, there are reports suggesting that former Congress chief Vikar Rasool Wani and his associates have been distancing themselves from activities led by Tariq Hameed Karra.
