Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday, 26 June called for urgent societal introspection after the alleged murder of Ketan Agarwal at Lohagad Fort near Pune, purportedly carried out by his fiancée Siya Goyal and her alleged lover. Speaking to reporters during a visit to the city, Fadnavis described the case as both a criminal matter and a deeper social crisis.

'This is an extremely shocking and incomprehensible incident. As a society, we need to introspect on why educated youth from good families are developing such a vengeful and distorted mindset,' the Chief Minister said. He added: 'I believe this is not just a crime but also a social issue that needs serious consideration. Society must create a strong system to ensure that such vengeful tendencies and distorted thinking do not develop among young boys and girls.'

Fadnavis described the incident as one that 'shakes the very conscience of society,' underlining that the response must go beyond law enforcement to address root causes in upbringing and social environment.

Victim's Father Meets CM, Demands Fast-Track Trial

Ketan's father, Vishal Agarwal, met Chief Minister Fadnavis at Ganesh Kala Krida Rangmanch in Pune during the same visit. He urged the Chief Minister to ensure the case is heard in a fast-track court so that the facts emerge at the earliest. Vishal Agarwal also demanded the strictest possible punishment for those accused in his son's death.

What the Accused's Lawyer Said

Advocate Ashutosh Srivastava, who is representing accused Siya Goyal, confirmed that Siya has signed and submitted the vakalatnama — a legal authorisation — and that it will be filed in court at the earliest. Srivastava noted that Siya is cooperating with the police in the ongoing investigation.

On the question of her family's involvement, Srivastava said: 'So far, we have not had any significant discussion with her family on this matter. I believe her family is already going through a great deal of distress; her father is hospitalised, so I don't think that I should disturb the family members right now. We have got the required information from Siya.'

Crime Scene Recreation at Lohagad Fort

The Pune Rural Police are preparing to recreate the crime scene at Lohagad Fort as part of their investigation. The exercise is intended to help investigators reconstruct the sequence of events leading to Ketan Agarwal's death and cross-check the version of events presented by the accused. This kind of scene reconstruction is a standard forensic step in cases where the sequence of events is disputed or requires corroboration.

The case has drawn widespread attention across Maharashtra, with the alleged involvement of educated young adults from reportedly stable family backgrounds raising uncomfortable questions about personal relationships, social pressures, and the limits of existing support systems for youth. As the investigation progresses, all eyes will be on whether the courts fast-track proceedings as the victim's family has demanded.
