Jaipur, April 25 (NationPress) Internet services have been halted in the areas of Gangdhar, Bhawanimandi, and Pidawa within Jhalawar district in Rajasthan until midnight on Friday. This action follows the outbreak of violence after the murder of a videographer during a wedding event.
Although the situation is now stabilized, there is a significant police presence. The tragic incident took place in Dag town, where Shambhu Singh, a videographer from Lasudiya who was attending the wedding, was fatally shot on Thursday night by unidentified attackers in a vehicle.
This murder led to upheaval in the region, with an angry mob setting several shops and kiosks on fire.
During the violence, Raipur Police Station Officer Banna Lal suffered a serious head injury from stones and was subsequently taken to Jhalawar for medical assistance.
Tensions rose rapidly following the incident, with smoke rising over the town and residents panicking, leading them to stay indoors. A large group gathered near the police station to protest, chanting slogans against the police, while agitators forcibly closed shops.
Several individuals were also attacked during the turmoil. To manage the unrest, police forces from across the district, including reinforcements from Kota and Pratapgarh, were dispatched to Dag.
The town has effectively turned into a police cantonment, with security personnel positioned at critical points. Drones are being utilized to oversee the area, and the Special Task Force (STF) is conducting ongoing patrols.
District Collector Ajay Singh Rathore and Superintendent of Police Richa Tomar arrived at the scene to monitor the situation.
SP Tomar confirmed the arrest of one suspect, identified as Rehan, and assured that efforts to locate the other perpetrators are underway. She also urged the public to remain calm and uphold peace.
The body of the deceased has been sent for a post-mortem examination by a medical board. In the wake of the incident, markets in Dag are closed, and a precarious calm hangs over the town.
Late into the night, police had to employ a lathi-charge to break up the mob. While the situation is currently under control, flames continued to rise for hours in various areas, including near the bus station and police station.
