Jerusalem/New Delhi, June 13 (NationPress) - On Friday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reached out to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide an update on the evolving situation following the initiation of a military operation by the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) against Iran earlier that day.

“I received a call from PM Netanyahu of Israel. He updated me on the evolving situation. I conveyed India’s concerns and stressed the importance of restoring peace and stability in the region promptly,” PM Modi posted on X following their conversation.

Netanyahu's office conveyed that he had discussions with several world leaders, including PM Modi, after Israel commenced 'Operation Rising Lion' aimed at eliminating the “Iranian threat of annihilation.”

“Beginning last night, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has engaged with world leaders, including the Chancellor of Germany, the Indian Prime Minister, and the French President. He is expected to speak with President Trump of the USA, President Putin of Russia, and the Prime Minister of the UK,” a statement from the Israeli Prime Minister’s office noted.

“The leaders expressed understanding for Israel’s defense needs in light of the Iranian threat. The Prime Minister mentioned that he would maintain communication with them in the following days,” it added.

Earlier, Netanyahu declared that Israel had initiated 'Operation Rising Lion' - a focused military drive to counter the Iranian threat of nuclear weapons that jeopardize Israel’s survival.

He asserted that this operation would persist for “as many days as necessary” to eliminate this peril.

The Israeli Air Force (IAF) executed strikes on the Iranian regime’s uranium enrichment facility located in the Natanz area overnight, as reported by the IDF on Friday.

“This is the largest uranium enrichment facility in Iran, which has been operational for years with the aim of achieving nuclear weapons capability, containing the infrastructure needed for enriching uranium to military-grade levels,” the IDF stated on X.

“As part of the strikes, the underground section of the site was damaged, impacting a multi-story enrichment hall with centrifuges, electrical rooms, and supporting infrastructure. Additionally, key infrastructure enabling the site’s ongoing operations and the Iranian regime’s efforts to acquire nuclear weapons were targeted. We will continue to act to prevent the Iranian regime from obtaining nuclear arms,” it elaborated.

India expressed that it remains “deeply concerned” about the recent developments between Iran and Israel and is “closely monitoring” the situation, including reports related to attacks on nuclear sites.

“India urges both parties to refrain from any escalatory actions. Existing channels of dialogue and diplomacy should be utilized to work towards de-escalation and resolution of underlying issues. India maintains close and friendly relations with both nations and is prepared to extend all possible support. Our Missions in both countries are in contact with the Indian community. All Indian nationals in the region are advised to exercise caution, stay safe, and adhere to local security advisories,” the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated.

Meanwhile, Israel's Minister of Foreign Affairs Gideon Sa'ar is actively conducting a “marathon of calls” with global counterparts, updating them on the unanimous Cabinet decision and subsequent IDF actions.

Under Sa'ar's direction, the Foreign Ministry is operating in an emergency capacity and has established an emergency situation room to coordinate all of Israel's missions worldwide.

“Israel's missions will function diplomatically and through the media across all platforms to secure diplomatic legitimacy for the military operation,” stated the Israeli Foreign Ministry.

Point of View
