New Charges Filed Against Detained Advocate Mian Qayoom in J&K Murder Case

Jammu, Dec 19 (NationPress) The State Investigation Agency (SIA) of Jammu and Kashmir has lodged a supplementary charge sheet against the detained advocate Mian Abdul Qayoom concerning the murder of an advocate who was tragically killed by terrorists in 2020.
The SIA revealed in its statement that the supplementary charge sheet was submitted to the designated court regarding Qayoom, who previously held the position of President of the High Court Bar Association, Kashmir, in the Babar Qadri murder case.
Reports indicate that Qadri was murdered by terrorists at his home located in the Hawal region of Srinagar city in September 2020.
The SIA's statement mentioned that an FIR No 62/2020 under sections 302 IPC, 7/27, and 13/16/18/20/39 of the UAPA was registered, prompting an investigation led by an SIT established by the IGP Kashmir and supervised by SP Hazratbal.
The SIT conducted the inquiry and submitted a charge sheet against six individuals on May 6, 2021, to the Special NIA Court in Srinagar. Subsequently, further investigation was initiated under section 173 (8) CrPC by SDPO Zadibal.
However, on July 20, 2023, the PHQ J&K reassigned the investigation of the case to the SIA J&K, leading to the formation of a SIT specifically aimed at uncovering the broader conspiracy behind the murder.
The SIA assumed control of the investigation, and based on substantial oral, documentary, and technical evidences, arrested Mian Qayoom on June 25, 2024, identifying him as the key conspirator behind the murder of the deceased. The investigation revealed that Mian Qayoom, who had a hostile relationship with the victim, orchestrated Babar Qadri's elimination through TRF terrorists and their associates in Pakistan by devising a criminal conspiracy.
“Babar Qadri was notably active on social media platforms, where he frequently criticized Mian Qayoom... He even had a foreboding feeling on the day of the incident. Interestingly, he went live on Facebook on September 24, 2020, afternoon, denouncing Mian Qayoom's policies and expressed his concerns about being targeted by Qayoom and his associates. Tragically, just hours later, he was brutally murdered at his home,” added the statement.
The SIA submitted a comprehensive 340-page supplementary charge sheet against Mian Qayoom for violations under sections 302/120-B/109 of the IPC and 13/18/18-B/38/39 of the UAPA on Thursday.
The initial charge sheet was presented to the Special NIA court in Srinagar; however, in December 2023, the High Court decided to transfer the trial to Jammu due to serious concerns regarding Qayoom's interference in the judicial proceedings and threats against the deceased's family. Mian Qayoom is currently incarcerated in the Jammu district jail.
