Imphal, March 27 (NationPress) The Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, announced on Thursday that over 400 new TB cases have been detected across six districts of the state following the launch of the 100-day TB Elimination Campaign on December 7 of the previous year.

The Governor highlighted that this campaign involved screening approximately one lakh individuals in the targeted districts, which led to the discovery of these new cases.

To facilitate early diagnosis and treatment in remote areas, a door-to-door testing initiative utilizing mobile vehicles, referred to as ‘Nikshay Vahan’, was implemented.

Moreover, the ‘Nikshay Mitra’ program has been introduced, which engages individuals and organizations willing to provide nutritional support to TB patients.

The state-level observance of the 44th World Tuberculosis Day took place at the Durbar Hall of Raj Bhavan.

During his address, the Governor remarked that tuberculosis remains a significant challenge in India and worldwide, acknowledging the profound impact this illness has on individuals, families, and communities.

He emphasized that this day symbolizes hope and a renewed commitment to eradicate TB by 2025, as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi under the TB-Mukt Bharat initiative.

Additionally, the Governor presented certificates of proficiency to the IRL laboratory and awards to the winners of a painting competition held for the occasion.

Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Health) Sumant Singh stated that Manipur has excelled at the national level in the 100-Day TB Elimination Campaign, highlighting the state's commitment to combatting this serious disease. He added that advancements in medical technology, including Nucleic Acid Amplification Testing (NAAT), have enabled the development of new, effective testing methods that provide high sensitivity and specificity in TB detection. He expressed optimism that, with community involvement, the campaign to eliminate TB will achieve even greater success.
