New Delhi, April 2 (NationPress) The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced an increase in toll fees for drivers utilizing highways and expressways nationwide, raising charges by an average of 4 to 5 percent as part of its annual adjustment to consider inflation-related costs.

The toll rate adjustment is a component of the NHAI's yearly assessment, which aligns toll prices with inflation based on the wholesale price index. The additional revenue generated will aid in the maintenance and development of highway infrastructure, according to a senior official.

As per the NHAI notification, the one-way toll for cars and jeeps on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway from Sarai Kale Khan to Meerut will increase from Rs 165 to Rs 170, while the fare for the journey from Ghaziabad to Meerut will rise from Rs 70 to Rs 75.

Light commercial vehicles and buses using this route will now pay Rs 275 per trip, while trucks will incur a fee of Rs 580. At the Chhijarsi toll plaza on NH-9, the toll for cars will rise from Rs 170 to Rs 175, with light commercial vehicles charged Rs 280, and buses and trucks facing a toll of Rs 590.

Motorists on highways around Lucknow, including routes connecting the state capital to Kanpur, Ayodhya, Raebareli, and Barabanki, will experience an added charge of Rs 5 to 10 per trip for light vehicles, while heavy vehicles will see an increase of Rs 20 to 25.

The monthly pass for cars will go from Rs 930 to Rs 950, while for cabs it will rise from Rs 1225 to Rs 1255. Single-trip tolls for light motor vehicles and minibuses will increase from Rs 120 to Rs 125.

On the Delhi-Jaipur Highway, at the Kherki Daula toll plaza, tolls for private vehicles will remain unchanged, but larger vehicles will face a Rs 5 increase per trip. The monthly pass for cars will also increase from Rs 930 to Rs 950, and for commercial vehicles from Rs 1225 to Rs 1255. Single-trip tolls for light motor vehicles and minibuses will see a rise from Rs 120 to Rs 125.

Across India’s national highway network, there are approximately 855 toll plazas, of which 675 are government-funded, and around 180 are operated by private entities.
