NIA Court Imposes Life Sentence on Hizbul Mujahideen Terrorist

New Delhi, Dec 10 (NationPress) A Special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court located in Lucknow has sentenced a Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) terrorist to life imprisonment.

A declaration from the NIA indicated that the special court in Lucknow handed down multiple sentences of rigorous imprisonment (RI) and life imprisonment linked to an HM terror conspiracy case.

“Kamruz Zaman, hailing from Hojai district in Assam, has been convicted and sentenced to jail by the special court for engaging in a criminal conspiracy aimed at executing terror attacks in Uttar Pradesh and other regions of India.

“The case was re-registered by the NIA after taking over the investigation from ATS Lucknow in September 2018, leading to the charge-sheeting of five accused in this case.

“Among them was an absconding suspect, Osama Bin Javed, who was later killed during an encounter with security forces in September 2019.

“NIA investigations revealed that Kamruz Zaman, in collaboration with his co-accused, plotted a criminal conspiracy to wage war against the Indian government and conspired to undertake preparatory activities targeting various Hindu temples.

“He was involved in fundraising activities, fully aware that the funds would be utilized by HM members for acts of terrorism. Investigations further disclosed that Kamruz Zaman was radicalized by Osama Bin Javed to join the outlawed terrorist organization HM. Both were recruited by two active militants, Mohammad Amin, a district commander of HM, and Riyaz Ahmad alias Hazari, a district deputy commander of HM, both from Kishtwar (J&K).

“These two militants were also responsible for the physical and weapons training of Kamruz Zaman and Osama Bin Javed in the forests of Kishtwar, after which Kamruz was directed to establish bases, hideouts, and select targets in Uttar Pradesh, Assam, and other parts of India for executing terrorist operations.

“As a result, Kamruz traveled to Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh), where he conducted reconnaissance on several targets. On Tuesday, the NIA Special Court sentenced Kamruz to 10 years of RI with a fine of Rs 10,000 under section 120B of the IPC, life imprisonment with a fine of Rs 10,000 under Section 121A of the IPC, 10 years of RI with a fine of Rs 10,000 under Section 17 of the UA(P) Act, life imprisonment with a fine of Rs 10,000 under Section 18 of the UA(P) Act, and 10 years of RI with a fine of Rs 10,000 under Section 39 of the UA(P) Act,” stated the announcement.

“He will face an additional three months of simple imprisonment if he defaults on the fines in each case. All sentences are to be served concurrently,” the statement concluded.
