New Delhi, April 11 (NationPress) Following the successful extradition of Tahawwur Hussain Rana from the United States, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is set to commence questioning the individual implicated in the 26/11 attacks on Friday.
The anti-terror agency took Rana into custody on Thursday evening as per the directive of the Special Court in New Delhi.
Sources indicate that questioning is anticipated to begin around 10 a.m. at the agency's headquarters.
During the interrogation, officials will focus on inquiries pertaining to the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, his connections with David Coleman Headley, and his purported ties to Pakistan's intelligence agency, the ISI.
It is expected that Rana will be questioned about his time spent in India and the individuals he interacted with, which may lead to revelations about his connections within the country.
Rana is slated to remain in NIA custody for a duration of 18 days.
The NIA released a statement on Friday, stating, "The agency will thoroughly interrogate him to uncover the full conspiracy behind the catastrophic 2008 attacks, which resulted in the deaths of 166 individuals and injuries to over 238 others."
The NIA confirmed that Rana's extradition from the US was achieved after extensive efforts and following the failure of his last-minute attempts to halt the extradition process. He was flown to the national capital, accompanied by teams from the NSG and NIA, including senior officials, aboard a special aircraft from Los Angeles, USA.
The extradition was finalized after Rana's numerous legal challenges, including an emergency application to the US Supreme Court, were dismissed.
"Thanks to the collaborative efforts of India's Ministry of External Affairs and Ministry of Home Affairs, along with relevant US authorities, the surrender warrant for the wanted terrorist was successfully secured, leading to his extradition," the anti-terror agency stated in its media release shared on its X handle on Friday.
The NIA acknowledged the "active cooperation" of various American institutions, noting their close collaboration with the FBI and the US Department of Justice’s Office of International Affairs during the entire extradition process.
This event represents a significant advancement in India's pursuit of justice against individuals involved in terrorism, regardless of their location.
