Chennai, Nov 3 (NationPress) In a pointed critique of AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS), expelled veteran K.A. Sengottaiyan on Monday accused him of fostering "dynasty politics" within the party — a claim frequently directed at its main rival, the DMK.
While addressing journalists at the Coimbatore International Airport, the nine-time MLA representing Gobichettipalayam alleged that Palaniswami's close relatives were wielding influence over party operations.
"The emerging issues clearly reveal hereditary politics in the AIADMK. It is not just an issue with the DMK. It is well-known that there is interference from Palaniswami's son, brother-in-law, and son-in-law in his political endeavors," Sengottaiyan stated.
He emphasized that such practices contradict the foundational principles established by the late leaders M.G. Ramachandran and J. Jayalalithaa.
"Despite having differing opinions, I have consistently worked for the party’s development since the era of MGR and Amma. My sole intention has always been to fortify the AIADMK, not to fragment it. Palaniswami must not deceive others — or himself — by claiming to achieve what he has failed to do," he remarked.
Sengottaiyan, a seasoned legislator and one of the most recognized faces of the AIADMK until his recent expulsion, was ousted after convening meetings with dismissed leaders O. Panneerselvam, T.T.V. Dhinakaran, and V.K. Sasikala.
His engagement with these former leaders — all marginalized by Palaniswami post the 2017 power struggle — has been interpreted as an initiative to seek potential reconciliation among different AIADMK factions.
This expulsion highlights ongoing internal conflicts within the party since EPS solidified his position as the sole General Secretary.
Numerous senior leaders have voiced their dissatisfaction regarding what they perceive as the "one-man control" of the organization and the increasing dominance of Palaniswami’s family.
Political analysts indicate that Sengottaiyan’s public denunciation signifies deepening divisions ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections, where the AIADMK aims to regroup against a revitalized DMK. His comments could pose additional challenges to efforts aimed at presenting a united front within the opposition.
