Palaniswami Responds to Udhayanidhi Stalin's Criticism, Challenges DMK's Dynastic Politics
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chennai, Feb 23 (NationPress) In a notable intensification of political discourse as Tamil Nadu approaches the Assembly elections, Opposition Leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) issued a robust rebuttal to Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, who has recently criticized him.
The exchange escalated when Udhayanidhi claimed that, even though the AIADMK is officially a member of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), EPS has become a “subservient slave” to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
This comment prompted immediate responses from the AIADMK faction. On the social media platform X, Palaniswami posted images from his campaign in the Ponneri Assembly constituency and directed a series of incisive questions at the Deputy Chief Minister.
In his post, EPS questioned Udhayanidhi’s statements, asking what term he would use for his own grandfather, former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, who at different times in political history had allied with the BJP-led coalition.
“If I am indeed a slave to the BJP, as Udhayanidhi asserts, what label would he assign to his grandfather who was part of the same coalition? What would he call him?” Palaniswami challenged.
He also probed whether Udhayanidhi was subtly criticizing Karunanidhi by referencing him in the current political landscape.
“Is he unable to directly criticize his grandfather and is therefore using my name as a proxy?” EPS urged, calling on the Deputy Chief Minister to clarify his position candidly.
The AIADMK leader expanded his critique to encompass what he described as dynastic politics within the ruling DMK.
Referring to the Stalin family as one of the wealthiest political dynasties globally, Palaniswami questioned why such a affluent family needs to maintain governance in Tamil Nadu.
“Is there a necessity for such a wealthy family to continue ruling our state?” he posed, asserting that the upcoming Assembly elections would act as a referendum against dynastic and hereditary governance.
“The upcoming election will serve as a moment for the people of Tamil Nadu to reject family rule and legacy politics,” he declared.
With both leaders escalating their verbal exchanges, the political climate in Tamil Nadu is poised to become increasingly contentious as parties prepare for this pivotal electoral contest.
