Vaiko and CPI Critique Palaniswami's Allegations Against Stalin, Cite BJP Pressure
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chennai, April 4 (NationPress) A new wave of political confrontation has emerged in Tamil Nadu, as MDMK leader Vaiko and CPI leader M. Veerapandian have fiercely criticized AIADMK chief Edappadi K. Palaniswami over his recent comments targeting Chief Minister M. K. Stalin.
The two leaders charged that the remarks made by Palaniswami represented a decline in the quality of political dialogue, particularly as the elections approach.
Vaiko, in a decisive move, claimed that Palaniswami’s statements were driven by political motives, intended to distract from pressing public concerns. He argued that the AIADMK was trying to reclaim lost political momentum through personal attacks rather than focusing on substantive policy discussions.
Moreover, Vaiko accused Palaniswami of being coerced into an alliance with the BJP, suggesting that his political choices had been swayed by pressures from central agencies.
Referring to the comments made against Stalin as 'malicious' and 'groundless', he cautioned that such remarks could lead to significant political repercussions.
Vaiko defended Stalin’s political journey, emphasizing that the Chief Minister's ascent had been built on decades of grassroots activism within the DMK, coupled with a series of important administrative roles. He asserted that such a legacy could not be undermined by what he termed 'frivolous' personal attacks.
He also recalled the circumstances surrounding the passing of former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, highlighting that Stalin had fought for a burial site for his father near the memorial of C. N. Annadurai. Vaiko alleged that the previous government under Palaniswami initially denied this request, which was only granted following judicial intervention.
In a similar vein, CPI leader Veerapandian claimed that Palaniswami had formed a self-serving alliance with the BJP due to undue influence from central agencies like the Enforcement Directorate and the Central Bureau of Investigation. He argued that such alliances had eroded the AIADMK's strength and diverted attention from its internal struggles.
Veerapandian also condemned the 'uncivilized and unfounded' personal attacks on Stalin, asserting that such behavior was unbecoming of a former Chief Minister. He urged Palaniswami to engage in meaningful, issue-focused political discussions as the state braces for a pivotal election period.
