Did Palaniswami Just Expose CM Stalin's Sticker Politics?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chennai, Feb 19 (NationPress) AIADMK General Secretary and Leader of Opposition Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) on Thursday launched a strong critique against Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, accusing him of taking undue credit for welfare initiatives that were originally introduced by the previous AIADMK administration and engaging in what he labeled as “sticker politics.”
In a post on his social media account, Palaniswami claimed that the DMK government has not rolled out any substantial new schemes since taking office and is merely rebranding initiatives from the AIADMK era.
“Since assuming power, they have failed to provide a single meaningful scheme. Their sole activity has been to place stickers over projects initiated by the AIADMK,” he stated.
He criticized Stalin for attempting to take credit for the 3 percent reservation in government jobs for athletes, asserting that this scheme was first introduced as a 2 percent quota in 2018 under the AIADMK rule and later enhanced to 3 percent during his administration.
“At a recent event organized by the sports department, the Chief Minister tried to inscribe his name over the benefits of the 3 percent quota for athletes. It’s absurd,” he remarked.
Palaniswami also highlighted the 7.5 percent internal reservation for government school students in medical admissions, claiming he had previously exposed what he termed “historical inaccuracies” related to this scheme during an Assembly debate.
He reiterated that both the 7.5 percent medical quota and the sports quota were thoughtfully designed initiatives executed during the AIADMK regime, demonstrating his commitment to supporting government school students and athletes.
“What has Stalin actually contributed to these schemes? Other than posing for photos while issuing appointment orders, what has he done?” he questioned.
Palaniswami challenged the DMK leadership, insisting that Stalin should promote the accomplishments of his own government instead of capitalizing on our initiatives.
He concluded his post with a pointed comment: “If there are no achievements to boast about, then I wish you defeat.”
This statement was made just before the DMDK officially joined the DMK-led alliance. Palaniswami did not comment on this development in his post. When reporters later asked for his thoughts on the DMDK’s decision, he mentioned he would respond at an appropriate time and left without further details.
