Chennai, Jan 22 (NationPress) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin lambasted Opposition leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) for alleging that the DMK government is "wasting funds on welfare schemes and initiatives."

Stalin challenged EPS to clarify if the AIADMK government, throughout its decade in power, ever honored its promises.

During a government function in Sivaganga, Stalin enumerated numerous unmet commitments made by the AIADMK from 2011 to 2016. These included the Chennai-Kanniyakumari coastal road, a 50 percent subsidy for women purchasing scooters, mobile phones for all ration card holders, free Wi-Fi in public areas, and an aeropark in southern Tamil Nadu.

Stalin posed the question, "Did the AIADMK government deliver on any of these pledges during its ten years of governance?"

He further insisted that EPS clarify which welfare initiatives or projects executed by the DMK were supposedly a waste of resources.

The Chief Minister emphasized two significant programs of his administration - the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai scheme and the morning breakfast initiative for school children - and queried if these were being labeled as wasteful.

Stalin asserted that out of the 505 promises made by the DMK in the 2021 Assembly elections, approximately 389 had been accomplished.

He criticized the AIADMK for its failure to fulfill its commitments, leading Tamil Nadu into a state of revenue deficit during its governance, despite its alliance with the BJP-led Union government.

"The AIADMK's connection with the BJP at the Centre was merely to maintain its power and influence," Stalin stated, adding that his administration, in contrast, focused on the welfare of the populace.

Stalin took a jab at EPS, saying, "While Palaniswami remains in a dark room tallying the number of new moon days, we concentrate on the welfare and advancement of the people."

He assured the public that they were capable of assessing the performance of both administrations based on the advantages and facilities they received.

The Chief Minister also reproached the Union government for allegedly trying to impede Tamil Nadu's initiatives.

He remarked, "Even when the Union government fails to fund its own projects, the State government utilizes its resources to guarantee their execution."

During the event, Stalin inaugurated 46 new initiatives in Sivaganga district valued at ₹376.49 crore, laid foundation stones for 33 forthcoming projects, and distributed welfare measures worth ₹161 crore to assist 53,039 individuals.
