BJP Launches Strong Critique of DMK Before PM Modi’s Tamil Nadu Visit; Emphasizes Centre’s Development Efforts
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chennai, April 13 (NationPress) The spokesperson for the Tamil Nadu BJP, A.N.S. Prasad, launched a scathing critique against Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and the DMK on Monday, accusing them of disseminating false information while the Centre actively rolls out significant development schemes in the state.
His comments were made in anticipation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to Tamil Nadu, an event that the BJP claims has caused evident unease within the ruling DMK.
Prasad charged the state government with engaging in politically-driven criticism to undermine the Centre’s expanding outreach and welfare programs.
He emphasized notable initiatives, including the planned 33% reservation for women under the Nari Shakti Vandan initiative, which is expected to take effect for the 2029 Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.
This initiative, according to Prasad, would significantly enhance women's roles in governance and policymaking. He also highlighted the Centre’s farmer welfare initiatives, pointing out that procurement under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) system reached record highs in the 2024–25 period.
Programs like PM-KISAN, which delivers direct financial support to farmers, were noted as vital measures aiding rural households, including those in Tamil Nadu.
In defense of recent governance reforms, Prasad asserted that amendments to the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) are designed to promote transparency and prevent the misuse of foreign funds by non-compliant organizations.
On the infrastructure front, the BJP showcased the advancement of significant projects such as Chennai Metro Phase-II, which benefits from substantial central funding.
Investments in highways, ports, and logistics, he asserted, are solidifying Tamil Nadu's status as a crucial economic center. The BJP also reiterated its backing for the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, claiming its multilingual approach offers adaptability and improved opportunities for students without enforcing any specific language.
Conversely, the DMK has been consistently opposed to many of these policies, especially those regarding federalism, language, and resource distribution, signaling a potential escalation in the political rivalry as the Assembly elections approach.
