Is Former AIADMK Minister Nilofar Kafeel Joining DMK with CM Stalin?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chennai, Feb 14 (NationPress) In a major political shift ahead of Tamil Nadu's forthcoming electoral season, former AIADMK Minister Nilofar Kafeel is poised to join the DMK on Saturday evening, alongside Chief Minister and DMK President M.K. Stalin.
This induction will occur during a large-scale training camp for DMK northern zone leaders taking place in Tirupattur.
The event is anticipated to attract senior party officials and party members, officially marking Nilofar Kafeel's transition to the ruling party.
Earlier that day, Nilofar Kafeel handed her resignation letter to AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami, formally relinquishing her primary membership and all related responsibilities.
In her resignation, she noted her long-standing association with the party but mentioned her inability to further her political career within the organization due to personal circumstances.
She expressed her appreciation to the party leadership and district leaders, especially those in Tirupattur, for their respect and support throughout her tenure.
Nilofar Kafeel previously represented the Vaniyambadi Assembly constituency and held the position of Minister for Labour Welfare during the previous AIADMK government.
However, she was denied a ticket in the 2021 Assembly elections, with the party instead allocating the seat to Senthilkumar, a close ally of former minister K.C. Veeramani.
This decision reportedly caused internal conflicts between Nilofar Kafeel and K.C. Veeramani, leading to dissatisfaction among their supporters.
The discord ultimately resulted in her expulsion from the AIADMK in 2021.
Though she was re-inducted into the party two years later, Nilofar Kafeel has received limited recognition since then and has only participated nominally in party affairs.
Her decision to join the DMK is seen as a significant alteration in the political landscape of the Vellore region, particularly in Tirupattur and Vaniyambadi, where she maintains a support base.
Political analysts suggest that this move may impact local dynamics as the next electoral battle in Tamil Nadu approaches.
