How Will Nitin Nabin's Visit Impact BJP's Rural Strategy?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chennai, Jan 10 (NationPress) The Tamil Nadu BJP spokesperson ANS Prasad announced that the visit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National Working President Nitin Nabin to Tamil Nadu on Saturday is a crucial part of a larger plan to enhance the party’s grassroots outreach in rural regions in preparation for the upcoming Assembly elections.
In his statement, Prasad mentioned that Nabin will take part in a public event at Neelambur Achankulam near Coimbatore aimed at launching the party's extensive outreach for the VB-G RAM G scheme, a revised rural employment and asset-creation initiative introduced by the Union government.
This visit signifies a major organizational effort by the BJP to engage directly with villagers, farmers, laborers, women, and youth.
As explained by Prasad, the VB-G RAM G Act, 2025, established under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, ensures up to 125 days of wage employment for each rural household.
The scheme encompasses weekly wage disbursements, skill enhancement, and the establishment of long-lasting community assets, with a strong emphasis on water conservation, climate-resilient infrastructure, and decentralized planning through panchayati raj.
A provision for a temporary suspension during peak agricultural periods has also been integrated to support farming activities. Prasad emphasized that Tamil Nadu stands to gain significantly from this scheme.
He highlighted that the previous rural employment program generated over 30 crore person-days of work in the state during 2024-25, with unskilled wages totaling around Rs 8,375 crore.
The improved framework of the VB-G RAM G scheme is expected to enhance income stability for farmers, agricultural laborers, women, and marginalized communities, while also aiding in the reduction of distress-driven migration from rural areas to urban centers.
Furthermore, Prasad criticized the DMK and its allies, including the Congress, for opposing the scheme on political grounds, despite its potential advantages for rural households.
He claimed that such resistance compromises efforts aimed at sustainable village development, transparency, and job creation.
During his visit, Nabin is anticipated to engage with farmers' organizations, labor unions, women's self-help groups, and youth representatives.
Prasad added that the BJP leader would emphasize how rural employment, infrastructure development, and skill training are fundamental to realizing the 'Viksit Bharat @2047' vision.
The BJP aims for the VB-G RAM G outreach to solidify rural support in Tamil Nadu and establish the party as a development-oriented alternative ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.
