New Delhi, Jan 20 (NationPress) Bharatiya Janata Party leader Nitin Nabin is poised to take on the role of the new National President of the BJP today, representing a pivotal change in the party's leadership structure.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and various senior party officials will be present at the swearing-in ceremony, which is anticipated to include BJP Chief Ministers, national office bearers, state unit presidents, and members of the party’s national executive committee.

On Monday, the BJP announced that Nitin Nabin was the only candidate for the National President position after the nomination process ended without any challengers, leading to his unopposed election as the party's 12th national leader.

In a statement released late Monday, National Returning Officer K. Laxman confirmed that only one name, that of Nitin Nabin, remained in the running following the conclusion of the nomination process and the withdrawal period.

The Returning Officer disclosed that 37 sets of nomination papers had been submitted in support of Nabin between 2 and 4 p.m., all deemed valid after rigorous scrutiny.

No withdrawals were noted, and no alternative candidates filed nominations.

The election process accelerated after 30 out of 36 BJP state presidents were elected, surpassing the required minimum of 50 percent as per the party's Constitution.

Earlier, on January 16, 2026, a notification outlining the schedule of events was disseminated, and the electoral roll was made public.

Nominations were opened and closed on Monday, with scrutiny occurring shortly thereafter.

Nabin, aged 45, was appointed as the National Working President on December 14, 2025, and has garnered significant support from the BJP's top brass, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and outgoing President J.P. Nadda.

Numerous senior BJP leaders, Chief Ministers, and representatives from various states submitted nomination papers in favor of Nabin earlier on Monday, indicating a strong consensus within the organization.

As the lone candidate, Nabin is set to be officially elected by the electoral college consisting of members from the BJP's national and state councils.

This process complies with BJP regulations, which stipulate that a candidate must be endorsed by at least 20 electoral college members from a state and must possess a minimum of 15 years of party membership.

Nabin's ascent is viewed as a strategic move to inject youthful leadership into the party while maintaining continuity.
