Aizawl, Jan 19 (NationPress) The Assam Rifles have successfully confiscated methamphetamine tablets valued at over Rs 28.17 crore during an operation in Mizoram, leading to the arrest of a suspected drug dealer, officials disclosed on Monday.
A defense spokesman reported that, acting on reliable intelligence concerning narcotics trafficking near the India-Myanmar border, the Assam Rifles executed an operation in the Ngur area of the Champhai district on Sunday. During this operation, unusual movements were noticed near a suspected site involving a Bolero pickup vehicle.
The spokesman further stated that a swift and thorough search resulted in the discovery of 9.391 kg of methamphetamine tablets, a dangerous psychotropic substance, concealed within the spare tire of the vehicle. The estimated market value of the seized narcotic is approximately Rs 28.17 crore, according to the official.
The contraband, along with the individual apprehended, identified as Shah Alam, was handed over to the Champhai Police Department for in-depth investigation and subsequent legal action under the relevant laws.
An Assam Rifles statement emphasized that this decisive action reflects their unwavering commitment and vigilance in combating drug trafficking. The paramilitary forces intercepted a suspicious Mahindra Yodha vehicle at a road junction in Lungbun village. Following a thorough examination, Myanmar currency, Kyat amounting to 1,40,82,000 (close to Rs 1.40 crore), was recovered.
One individual involved in the illegal transportation was also apprehended. The seized foreign currency and the arrested individual have been transferred to the police authorities for further legal proceedings.
