Patna, Feb 21 (NationPress) On Saturday, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced a five-point directive aimed at enhancing pedestrian safety across Bihar.
In a comprehensive post shared on social media, the Chief Minister outlined five essential instructions directed at the state's Transport Department, focusing on the everyday challenges faced by pedestrians.
He emphasized that following the establishment of the new government on November 20, 2025, initiatives under 'Saat Nischay-3' are being actively pursued.
As part of the seventh resolution of Saat Nischay-3 (2025–30), titled ‘Sabka Samman – Jeevan Aasan’, the government is committed to simplifying and dignifying the daily lives of its citizens.
The Chief Minister remarked on the rapid progress in Bihar, noting that increasing incomes have led to a significant rise in the number of two-wheelers and four-wheelers on the roads.
However, this growth has also heightened the challenges and dangers faced by pedestrians, he acknowledged.
"The right to walk safely and with dignity on roads is fundamental for pedestrians," stated the Chief Minister, stressing the necessity of adhering to road safety standards.
With pedestrian safety as a priority, he instructed the Transport Department to swiftly implement the five directives, which include identifying and constructing footpaths promptly in urban areas, particularly in high-traffic regions.
He also called for the establishment of zebra crossings at designated sites to facilitate safe pedestrian movement, as well as the development of foot overbridges, escalators, and underpasses at specified locations to guarantee safe road crossings.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of training all government and private vehicle drivers to enhance their sensitivity towards the rights and safety of pedestrians.
He urged the identification of accident-prone black spots in both rural and urban settings, along with the construction of pedestrian footpaths and the installation of CCTV cameras to monitor and reduce road accidents.
He instructed the Transport Department to expedite these efforts to ensure that pedestrians benefit from these facilities as soon as possible.
"I am optimistic that this initiative will greatly enhance pedestrian safety and ease daily life," he concluded.
