Patna, June 26 (NationPress) Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai has launched a fierce critique against Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, insisting on a public apology for his statement that labeled Bihar as a "small state".
Rai contended that this comment was not only “insensitive” and “derogatory” but also a direct affront to the 13 crore people of Bihar.
In a strongly worded press release, the senior BJP leader and MP from Ujiarpur asserted: “Mallikarjun Kharge has insulted not just a state, but the entire cultural legacy, glorious history, and democratic spirit of Bihar. The people of Bihar cannot tolerate such an offensive remark.”
Continuing his argument, Rai described the Congress party's stance towards Bihar as “consistently dismissive,” suggesting that Kharge’s comment is emblematic of the Congress’s historic neglect of the state's development.
“This is the land of Chanakya, Mahavir, Gautam Buddha, and Loknayak Jayprakash Narayan. It is the cradle of democracy and social justice. Referring to Bihar as a small state is an insult to its people and their legacy,” he stated.
In light of the 50th anniversary of the Emergency, Rai remarked: “Kharge’s insult has surfaced during a time when we are honoring the movement led by J.P. Narayan, who arose from this very land to challenge the autocracy imposed by the Congress.”
“Even after five decades, the Congress cannot seem to accept Bihar’s defiance against dictatorship,” he added.
Rai also directed his criticism towards the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, questioning his silence regarding this matter.
“Rahul Gandhi seeks votes in Bihar yet permits leaders in Delhi to insult Biharis. Why is he silent now? Does he endorse Kharge’s statement?” Rai inquired.
“The people of Bihar have dignity and will respond to this insult through the democratic process in upcoming elections,” he asserted.
Rai called for an immediate apology from Kharge, stating: “The Congress President must publicly apologize to the 13 crore people of Bihar. This is not merely a matter of political etiquette; it is about honoring the pride of an entire state.”
Reaffirming the BJP’s position, Nityanand Rai emphasized that Bihar’s contributions to social justice, national politics, and intellectual history remain unparalleled.
“This is the same Bihar where Karpoori Thakur pioneered the journey toward reservation and social upliftment, which Rahul Gandhi now discusses abroad,” Rai concluded.
