New Delhi, Jan 23 (NationPress) The abrupt shutdown of multiple branches of the coaching institution FIITJEE in the Delhi NCR region and northern India has incited outrage among numerous parents, prompting them to file police complaints in pursuit of fee refunds, a Noida police representative stated on Thursday.
This turmoil within the leading coaching chain surfaces amid growing concerns regarding the institute's financial instability and increasing administrative and civic actions against its branches for breaching licensing and fire safety regulations.
In areas such as Noida, Ghaziabad, Meerut, and Bhopal, parents have lodged several police complaints, while the prestigious South Delhi branch located at Kalu Sarai near IIT-Delhi has been compelled to suspend various classes due to a mass departure of teachers who reportedly have not received their salaries for several months.
On Thursday, a police complaint was additionally filed in Noida Sector-58 following the closure of the FIITJEE centre in Sector 26, without the issuance of fee refunds.
A parent who had recently paid Rs 4 lakh in fees expressed, “An outgoing FIITJEE teacher informed us that the majority of faculty members are leaving as they have not received salaries for several months.”
Ghaziabad’s District Inspector of Schools, Dharmendra Sharma, brought attention to a new initiative launched under the UP Coaching Regulation Act, 2002, targeting unregistered institutes.
Social media platforms have been inundated with videos showing parents protesting outside the now-closed branches of the institute and police stations, alongside numerous videos released by the company’s senior management and unpaid faculty members.
The escalating crisis appears to have materialized just after the conclusion of the academic session for students taking the JEE Mains Session-1 entrance exam for engineering colleges on January 22, 23, and 24.
FIITJEE is reported to operate 72 centres across 41 cities and employs over 300 individuals.
Some parents expressed their shock upon receiving text messages from FIITJEE centre managers starting on Monday, informing them about the closure of their children’s centre.
A parent from South Delhi mentioned that certain teachers had previously warned them about a potential upheaval due to the management’s alleged financial mismanagement and disputes with franchise centre heads.
“The teachers, most of whom are IIT alumni, had been compelled to seek alternative employment and chose to leave after the current academic calendar for IIT aspirants concluded,” said a parent outside the Kalu Sarai location in Delhi, where he hurried to inquire about the crisis and its effects on class disruptions.
Founded in 1992 by D.K. Goel, a mechanical engineering graduate from IIT Delhi, this coaching institute chain specializes in training for engineering entrance exams and also provides NEET entrance coaching, with centres even located in other countries.
