Faridabad, Jan 8 (NationPress) A 17-year-old national-level shooter has made allegations against her coach, accusing him of sexual assault during a championship in December of the previous year at a hotel in Faridabad, as reported by officials on Thursday.
The complaint led to the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) in Faridabad, detailing that the coach assaulted the athlete and issued threats to derail her career.
She reported that the coach coerced her into meeting him at his hotel to discuss her performance in an ongoing competition.
In response to these allegations, the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) has suspended the coach.
According to the police, the FIR was filed following a complaint from the athlete's mother, and investigations are in progress to secure CCTV footage from the hotel and gather witness testimonies related to the incident.
The FIR indicates that the alleged assault occurred on December 16 while she was competing in a national-level shooting event at the Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range in Tughlakabad, South Delhi.
Post-match, the coach allegedly requested her to meet him in the lobby of the Surajkund Hotel in Faridabad, where he was staying, to evaluate her performance.
Upon her arrival, she was further pressured to enter the coach's room for a more detailed discussion.
Inside the hotel room, the FIR alleges that the coach sexually assaulted her and threatened serious repercussions if she disclosed the incident.
A senior police officer confirmed that a case has been filed at the Women's Police Station in NIT Faridabad under Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and Section 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), as the victim is a minor.
SHO of NIT Women Police Station, Maya Kumari, stated, "I cannot reveal much at this stage due to the severity of the case, and since the accused has not yet been apprehended. The arrest is still pending, so no additional details can be disclosed at this time. I will not name the individuals involved due to the sensitivity of the matter."
She added that teams are working to collect electronic and forensic evidence, including CCTV footage from the hotel, call logs, travel information, and statements from hotel staff and potential witnesses.
