Faridabad, Jan 8 (NationPress) The Haryana State Commission for Women (HSCW) has recently acknowledged the disturbing allegations of sexual assault against a 17-year-old national-level shooter by her coach, which reportedly occurred at a hotel in Faridabad during a championship last December.
Renu Bhatia, Chairperson of the HSCW, has formally requested the Haryana Police Commissioner to establish a specialized team to investigate this serious matter and has also asked for an up-to-date status report regarding the FIR.
"I am directed to communicate the instructions of the Hon'ble Chairperson of the Haryana State Commission for Women concerning the aforementioned matter. In this regard, please appoint a dedicated police officer to investigate FIR No. 0003 dated 06.01.2026, lodged at the Women Police Station, NIT Faridabad.
The Commission further emphasized the urgency of this case, insisting that prompt action and compliance be ensured within an appropriate timeframe.
As reported in the FIR filed in Faridabad, the coach allegedly assaulted the shooter and intimidated her by threatening her career.
The athlete claims that the coach coerced her into meeting him at his hotel under the pretext of reviewing her performance during an ongoing competition.
According to police reports, a First Information Report (FIR) was filed following a complaint from the girl's mother, with efforts underway to secure CCTV footage from the hotel and gather statements from witnesses involved.
The alleged incident took place on December 16 during a national-level shooting event at the Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range in Tughlakabad, South Delhi.
Post-competition, the coach reportedly requested her presence in the lobby of the Surajkund Hotel in Faridabad for a performance evaluation.
Upon her arrival, she was pressured to enter the coach's room for a more detailed discussion.
The FIR alleges that in the hotel room, the coach sexually assaulted her and threatened severe repercussions for her career and family should she disclose the incident.
In light of the complaint, a senior police officer confirmed that a case has been registered at the Women's Police Station in NIT Faridabad under Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and Section 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), given that the victim was a minor at the time of the alleged crime.
Maya Kumari, SHO of NIT Women Police Station, stated, "I cannot disclose much at this stage due to the gravity of the case, and because the accused has not yet been apprehended. The arrest is still pending, so further details cannot be shared at this time. The names involved will remain undisclosed due to the sensitivity of the situation."
She informed that teams are tasked with collecting electronic and forensic evidence, including CCTV footage from the hotel, as well as call records and travel details, and recording statements from hotel staff and other potential witnesses.
"The allegations are serious. We are adhering to due process and ensuring that all evidence is preserved," she affirmed.
