Northeast Frontier Railway Implements Measures to Protect Tracks from Cattle Invasion

Guwahati, Dec 30 (NationPress) The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), serving the northeastern states, 7 districts of West Bengal, and 5 districts of north Bihar with a vast network exceeding 6,400 km of railway tracks, is undertaking several measures to mitigate the risks of cattle-related accidents on its tracks, as reported by officials on Monday.

NFR's Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO), Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, stated that the organization is implementing diverse strategies to curb cattle collisions along the railway lines.

One notable initiative involves a collaboration with local communities. In Yeabra village, located in Dima Hasao, Assam, between the Daotuhaja and Wadrengdisa stations under the Lumding Division, locals have successfully constructed bamboo barricades on both sides of the railway track.

This impressive achievement stems from ongoing awareness campaigns and meetings organized by the Railway Protection Force (RPF), spearheaded by the IPF team of NFR, along with the enthusiasm of local residents who voluntarily undertook this fencing initiative at their own expense, Sharma explained.

According to the CPRO, this exemplary instance of community engagement underscores the significance of fostering trust and collaboration between the railway authorities and local populations. Such initiatives are especially crucial in regions where unauthorized crossings and cattle intrusions present major challenges to railway safety and operations, he added.

Sharma emphasized that this method not only addresses critical safety issues but also serves as a model for other areas to replicate.

NFR encourages additional villages along its network to adopt this cooperative approach to bolster the safety and efficiency of train services and remains dedicated to enhancing safety through community-led solutions while strengthening ties with local residents, the official mentioned. Incidents of trains colliding with animals, particularly elephants and cattle, are a frequent occurrence within the NFR zone.
