Thiruvananthapuram/Chhattisgarh, July 31 (NationPress) – Union Minister of State for Fisheries George Kurian criticized the Congress party on Thursday, asserting that only the BJP is genuinely invested in addressing the issue surrounding the arrest of two nuns in Chhattisgarh. He claimed that the Congress prefers to prolong their release for unknown reasons.
In a media briefing, Kurian stated, "It’s important to note that it was Kerala State BJP president Rajeev Chandrasekhar and Anoop Antony who initiated the efforts, which are still ongoing. We expect to hear positive developments soon."
He further clarified that there appears to be confusion regarding who submitted the bail application in the Sessions court.
“The police had brought the three young women (who were with the nuns) for the bail hearing on Monday, but surprisingly, the application was not presented in court,” Kurian added.
He noted that the Chhattisgarh court denied the nuns' bail plea, stating it was beyond their jurisdiction.
Notably, the Chhattisgarh Sessions Court dismissed the bail applications, declaring it outside of their scope.

They had been working at a hospital in Agra. On July 26, while escorting three women from Narayanpur district in Chhattisgarh to Agra for jobs as kitchen helpers in a convent, the nuns and a man, Sukhman Mandavi, were intercepted at a railway station by Bajrang Dal activists.
Following a complaint, the nuns were subsequently detained by police on accusations of human trafficking and forced conversions.
The nuns were later presented before a local court and placed in judicial custody.
As the sessions court has now referred the matter to the High Court, the nuns will remain incarcerated until their bail request is reviewed anew.
