Bhubaneswar, July 29 (NationPress) A nursing officer at AIIMS Bhubaneswar has been taken into custody following allegations of inappropriate behavior by a female hospital attendant within the hospital grounds.
The individual in question, identified as Nanu Ram Choudhury, was apprehended late Sunday night by Khandagiri Police, acting on a formal complaint filed by the victim.
According to reports, the incident took place in the Orthopaedics Department, where the woman was performing her duties. In her complaint, the victim stated that around 12:30 a.m. on July 27, the nursing officer called her into the doctor's chamber and engaged in inappropriate conduct.
Choudhury allegedly touched her inappropriately and attempted to sit next to her despite her objections. Fortunately, the victim managed to escape by locking the accused inside the chamber.
She promptly informed the hospital authorities of the incident.
Following the guidance of the hospital management, she filed a complaint with the Khandagiri police on July 28.
Based on her report, police registered a case (514/2025) and arrested Choudhury late Monday night.
Earlier, the female hospital attendant and her colleagues conducted a sit-in protest outside the main gate of AIIMS, Bhubaneswar, demanding the swift arrest of the accused and justice for the victim.
The AIIMS Bhubaneswar management confirmed that an internal investigation has been launched, and appropriate actions will be taken based on the findings.
A senior official indicated that after learning of the incident from the victim, the hospital authorities reached out to the police for necessary actions.
