Bhubaneswar, March 21 (NationPress) The Odisha Cabinet has sanctioned the ‘Odisha State Road Policy, 2025’ to facilitate the effective execution and oversight of road networks throughout the state.
On Friday, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi presented the details pertaining to the resolutions made by the state Cabinet during its assembly on Thursday.
CM Majhi elaborated in the Assembly that the policy has been formulated for the efficient implementation and monitoring of the road system across Odisha.
Significantly, the state Cabinet on Thursday endorsed ten proposals from seven departments, including Health & Family Welfare, Steel and Mines, Works, General Administration, Water Resources, Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water, Revenue, and Disaster Management.
CM Majhi highlighted in the assembly that the new State Road Policy will establish a framework for a high-quality road network in the state, ensuring a well-structured system for the proper enhancement of roads for the safe, sustainable, and efficient transport of the public and goods.
The policy will facilitate the creation of a list of directives/instructions for the inter-departmental transfer of roads, enhancing management, ensuring appropriate allocation of sufficient funds for the maintenance of road infrastructure in the state, and improving roadway safety to minimize accidents and fatalities in Odisha.
Additionally, the policy aims to bolster the capacity of road sector organizations in planning, design, procurement, construction, maintenance, and project management.
CM Majhi indicated that the state government is concentrating on the development of bridges across Odisha as part of the proposed Odisha State Road Policy-2025.
He mentioned that a 'Comprehensive Online Bridge Information System (BIS)' will be created for the online collection of information regarding all the bridges in the state. Bridges will undergo annual evaluations using a modernized process.
Majhi informed the House that the status of bridges will be consistently updated in both the online Bridge Information System and the Odisha Road Asset Management System.
In another important decision, the state Cabinet also approved a budget allocation of Rs 27,019.25 crore for the implementation of the Centre's Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana and the state-sponsored Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana for a five-year period from 2025-26 to 2029-30.
