He conveyed his heartfelt greetings and best wishes to the people of Odisha, all Indians nationwide, and those residing abroad as part of the 79th Independence Day festivities.
During his speech, the Chief Minister paid tribute to freedom fighters from various ideologies who united to end British rule.
Majhi emphasized Odisha’s crucial role in the independence struggle, honoring the sacrifices of renowned Odia freedom fighters, including Utkalmani Pandit Gopabandhu Das, Utkal Gourav Madhusudan Das, Shaheed Laxman Naik, Veer Surendra Sai, and Chakra Bisoi.
He also recognized Bakshi Jagabandhu and Jayee Rajguru, the leaders of the Paika Rebellion in Odisha in 1817, which occurred four decades before the 1857 sepoy mutiny, known as the First War of Independence.
CM Majhi commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his decisive leadership during Operation Sindoor after the tragic terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22.
He praised the Indian armed forces for demolishing nine terrorist hideouts and 11 Pakistani military bases during Operation Sindoor.
The CM highlighted the display of advanced indigenous defense technology for the first time during the operation, calling it a demonstration of the successful ‘Make in India’ initiative.
Focusing on Odisha, Majhi asserted that his government has successfully met the people's aspirations, achieving several remarkable milestones within a year.
He stated that under the guidance of the Prime Minister, targeted plans have been formulated for four key demographic segments - women, farmers, the underprivileged, and youth - aimed at inclusive and rapid development.
To meet these objectives, the government prioritizes livelihood, infrastructure, social development, and Odia Asmita (Odia identity).
Emphasizing rapid industrialization, Chief Minister Majhi revealed that Odisha has attracted investments exceeding Rs 1.80 lakh crore through the establishment of 60 industries in the last six to seven months. He encouraged citizens to don traditional Odia handloom attire at least once a week.
The Chief Minister announced that the Union Cabinet has approved the establishment of two semiconductor units in the state, which is expected to revolutionize the electronics and IT sector in Odisha.
He indicated that the state government will soon host a pharmaceutical conclave, anticipated to attract major pharmaceutical companies from across India and internationally.
Majhi expressed optimism that this initiative will transform Odisha into a pharmaceutical hub, creating over 2.5 lakh employment opportunities.
Reiterating his government's 'Zero tolerance' policy regarding women's safety, Majhi remarked, “Those committing violence against women, regardless of their power or influence, belong behind bars. They have no place in a civilized society. The police have been granted full authority to act. I have issued strict orders to take legal action against anyone negligent in ensuring women's safety.”
CM Majhi also announced that a police memorial will soon be constructed to honor the Odisha police personnel and officials who lost their lives in the line of duty.
He declared that under the Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, each eligible family in the eight KBK (Kalahandi, Nuapada, Balangir, Sonepur, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, and Rayagada), and Boudh, Gajapati, and Kandhamal districts will receive 5 kg of free rice per month for three months.
