Bhubaneswar, Jan 31 (NationPress) Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday called for an apology from the Congress, labeling the comments from its prominent leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi regarding President Droupadi Murmu as ‘offensive’ and ‘disrespectful’.

“On behalf of the people of Odisha, I vehemently denounce these offensive and disrespectful remarks. The citizens of India will not tolerate such insults to our constitutional authority, and the Congress leadership must promptly apologize,” stated CM Majhi on X.

Majhi emphasized that the derogatory and patronizing comments made by Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi towards Murmu are profoundly reprehensible and reveal the Congress party's elitist and dismissive demeanor.

Sonia Gandhi’s remark, “poor lady President Murmu got tired at the end”, along with Rahul Gandhi’s “boring” comment, are not merely slights to India’s inaugural tribal woman President but also an affront to the Santhal community, the people of Odisha, and the democratic values of our nation, Majhi added.

The Chief Minister pointed out that President Droupadi Murmu represents the hopes of millions, especially those from tribal and marginalized communities, having ascended to the highest constitutional position through her unwavering dedication, hard work, and service.

“The Congress party’s ongoing efforts to belittle her only expose their deep-seated arrogance and contempt for India’s democratic institutions,” Majhi remarked.

Conversely, the president of the BJP’s state unit, Manmohan Samal, condemned the statements made by Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi regarding President Murmu’s address in Parliament, stating that they hurt the sentiments of 4.50 crore people in Odisha.

Speaking to the media at the state BJP office, Samal asserted: “Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and the Congress party should publicly apologize for their disrespectful comments aimed at the President of India by the senior leadership of a responsible national party.”

Samal further stated that Sonia Gandhi’s recent remarks have unveiled the feudal mindset and ill mentality of the Congress party. He expressed that the entire nation is now witnessing the pride and arrogance of the Congress party.

Samal claimed that through their remarks against Murmu, the Congress party leadership has shown disrespect to the people of Odisha. It is crucial to note that the controversy arose when Sonia Gandhi, a veteran Congress leader and former party president, made the comments while speaking with reporters outside Parliament.

In response to the President’s address to the joint session of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, she stated: "The President was getting very tired by the end. She could hardly speak, poor thing."

Sonia Gandhi was accompanied by Congress MPs Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. Rahul Gandhi dismissed the President’s speech as “boring,” stating, “No comments. Repeating the same thing again and again.”
