Bhubaneswar, Aug 19 (NationPress) Odisha's Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed his profound appreciation towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari following the approval from the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) for the development of a six-lane Capital Region Ring Road. This initiative is set to alleviate traffic congestion in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
On the social media platform X, CM Majhi stated, “I sincerely thank Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modiji and Hon’ble Union Minister Shri Nitin Gadkariji for granting approval for the construction of the 6-Lane Access-Controlled Capital Region Ring Road (Bhubaneswar Bypass – 110.875 km) in Odisha, with a total investment of Rs 8,307.74 crore.
The Chief Minister described the proposed Bhubaneswar Bypass as a transformative infrastructure project. “This landmark infrastructure initiative will significantly enhance connectivity, reduce congestion in major urban areas, improve logistics efficiency, and pave the way for economic growth and prosperity in Odisha and the eastern region,” he added.
During a meeting led by PM Modi, the CCEA approved this six-lane, access-controlled Capital Region Ring Road (Bhubaneswar Bypass measuring 110.875 km) in Odisha. The project will connect with three major National Highways (NH-55, NH-57, and NH-655) along with one State Highway (SH-65), ensuring seamless connectivity to vital economic, social, and logistics hubs across Odisha. It is expected to generate approximately 74.43 lakh person-days of direct employment and 93.04 lakh person-days of indirect employment, thereby fostering growth and development in surrounding areas.
Furthermore, the upgraded corridor will promote multi-modal integration by linking with 10 Economic Nodes, 04 Social Nodes, and 05 Logistic Nodes. This will enhance connectivity with 1 Major Railway Station, 1 Airport, 1 proposed Multi-Modal Logistics Park (MMLP), and 2 major Ports, facilitating the swift movement of goods and passengers across the region, as stated by an official.
Currently, the existing National Highway between Rameswar and Tangi faces severe congestion due to high traffic volumes flowing through the urbanized regions of Khordha, Bhubaneswar, and Cuttack. To tackle these issues, the project is envisioned as a 6-lane access-controlled Greenfield Highway.
