Bhubaneswar, Feb 18 (NationPress) The Odisha Government has established a high-level fact-finding committee to investigate claims of mistreatment towards Nepali students by the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) authorities in Bhubaneswar.

It is crucial to note that students were forcibly removed from their university hostels on Monday after protesting the tragic suicide of a 20-year-old Nepali female student on Sunday.

A press release from the state government indicated that suitable legal and administrative measures would be initiated against the university based on the committee's findings.

“The institution has been formally notified, and necessary legal and administrative actions will be taken in accordance with the conclusions of the High Level Fact-Finding Committee set up by the Government,” the statement declared.

The committee includes the Additional Chief Secretary from the Home Department, the Principal Secretary from the Women & Child Development Department, and the Commissioner-cum-Secretary from the Higher Education Department as members.

“Allegations of misconduct, including the use of force against students by private individuals, are currently under investigation. Those found responsible will face legal consequences. The Government of Odisha is dedicated to safeguarding the safety, dignity, and welfare of all students,” the state government emphasized.

The Odisha government has committed to taking all necessary measures to ensure that justice is delivered promptly and fairly.

Furthermore, immediate actions have been initiated for the apprehension of security guards accused of assaulting the Nepali students and the suspension of officials implicated in the distressing incident at KIIT.

Notably, the father of the deceased student, Prakriti Lamsal, a third-year B Tech (Computer Science) student at KIIT, has called for justice for his daughter.

Sunil Lamsal, Prakriti’s father, who arrived in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday, expressed his confidence in the Government of Odisha and the police to ensure justice is served.

Meanwhile, legislators from various parties, during discussions in the Assembly on Tuesday, called for stringent actions against college authorities and anyone involved in the incident.

It is significant to mention that Prakriti took her own life on Sunday afternoon after enduring harassment and blackmail from her estranged boyfriend, Advik Shrivastava, a B.Tech (Mechanical) student from Uttar Pradesh.

The police apprehended the accused at Bhubaneswar Airport while he attempted to flee the city on Monday.
