Bhubaneswar, Jan 16 (NationPress) The government of Odisha has officially established a state steering committee aimed at formulating the State Curriculum Frameworks (SCFs) in accordance with the National Education Policy, 2020 (NEP-2020).

The Odisha School and Mass Education Department released a notification on Thursday detailing that the committee will consist of 16 members, headed by Prof. Nityananda Pradhan, the former principal of the Regional Institute of Education, Bhopal.

“To create the State Curriculum Frameworks (SCFs) under the guidelines of the National Education Policy, 2020 (NEP-2020), and in accordance with the National Curriculum Frameworks with local contextualization, the government has established a State Steering Committee chaired by Prof. Nityananda Pradhan, Retd. Principal, RIE, Bhopal, along with the following members,” states the notification from the S&ME Department.

The additional secretary of the School and Mass Education Department will serve as the member convenor of this committee. In line with the NEP, state governments are expected to develop Curriculum Frameworks (SCFs) via district-level consultations, mobile app surveys, and the creation of position papers on various subjects. Recently, the Odisha School and Mass Education (S&ME) Department formally announced the execution of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in the state.

“After thorough evaluation, in the interest of fortifying the educational framework in the state, the government is pleased to implement the National Education Policy 2020, as outlined by the Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India,” the S&ME Department's notification stated on Wednesday.

Additionally, the S&ME Department affirmed that the National Curriculum Framework will be adopted alongside the NEP 2020. It is significant to note that the NEP 2020 aims to initiate a significant overhaul of the educational system, positioning India as a global knowledge superpower.

The NEP 2020 proposes multiple reforms across all educational tiers, including a revamp of the curriculum and pedagogy structured on a 5+3+3+4 model, which encompasses children aged between 3 to 18 years, as well as improvements to the existing examination and assessment systems and enhancement of teacher training.
