Bhubaneswar, June 6 (NationPress) Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari on Friday instructed the heads of various departments to formulate specialized roadmaps for the socio-economic and cultural advancement of the residents of Kotia Gram Panchayat in the Pottangi block of Koraput district. This region has been a point of contention between Odisha and the neighboring state of Andhra Pradesh for a prolonged period.
Pujari, who presided over the inaugural meeting of a committee formed by the Odisha government regarding the Kotia matter, urged officials to present their departmental roadmaps within one month for further evaluation.
Secretaries from multiple government departments, including Home, Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Health, and Education, along with the Koraput District Collector and RDC, participated in the meeting.
Former district collectors and SPs who have previously addressed the Kotia issue were invited to the meeting. Those with a history of involvement in resolving the Kotia conflict were also present.
The MLA of Pottangi attended the meeting focused on the development of the Kotia area. After the meeting, Pujari stated: “Kotia is an integral part of Odisha. Officials have been tasked with devising special roadmaps for essential developmental initiatives to enhance social, economic, and cultural conditions, and to address the concerns of the youth in Kotia. They are to submit their departmental roadmaps within a month.”
The authorities will develop specific roadmaps in consultation with the district collector to improve roads, ensure quality healthcare, education, technical training, and provide adequate market access for local farmers and traders in the Kotia region.
Pujari has also requested an action report from various departments concerning previous efforts on the Kotia issue based on recommendations from the Vidhan Sabha house committee and developmental initiatives by past governments.
Pujari reaffirmed that Kotia is a non-negotiable part of Odisha, insisting that there can be no compromise on this matter.
“The dispute between Odisha and Andhra Pradesh over the Kotia issue has persisted since colonial times. Numerous legal battles have been fought, including cases in the Supreme Court of India. However, Odisha’s position has weakened due to inadequate representation in earlier Supreme Court proceedings,” he elaborated.
He also mentioned that the state government is consulting legal experts to ensure that Odisha’s case is robustly presented in ongoing Supreme Court cases related to the Kotia dispute.
