New Delhi, Nov 26 (NationPress) In an extensive 24-hour operation ahead of the forthcoming MCD bye-elections, the Delhi Police executed a significant series of coordinated raids throughout the city as part of Operation Kavach-11.0. This initiative aimed at dismantling networks of narco-offenders, bootleggers, and organized criminals, according to an announcement made by the Delhi Police on Wednesday.
The operation, which was conducted from 6 PM on November 24 to 6 PM on November 25, involved simultaneous raids at 1,566 locations across all 15 districts. The operation was a collaborative effort involving district units, the Crime Branch, and the Special Cell.
During this extensive crackdown, law enforcement apprehended 80 drug dealers involved in 76 NDPS cases, resulting in the recovery of 282.71 grams of heroin, 19.235 kg of ganja, 2.147 kg of opium, 2.034 kg of charas, 4,704 Tramadol capsules, and Rs 1,02,660 in cash, as detailed in the police’s press release.
The police reported that this action is part of their enhanced efforts under the Centre's “Zero Tolerance” policy against drugs.
As per the Delhi Excise Act, there were 273 cases registered, leading to an equal number of arrests, along with the confiscation of 911 liquor bottles, 41,704 quarters, 17 beer bottles, and 57 beer cans.
Additionally, 1,500 individuals consuming alcohol in public spaces were detained.
In 99 cases related to the Arms Act, 100 individuals were arrested, with the recovery of a pistol, 13 country-made firearms, cartridges, and 87 knives. The operation also led to 213 arrests under the Gambling Act, with a seizure of Rs 2.37 lakh.
The police also captured 24 proclaimed offenders, 16 auto-lifters, and recovered 23 stolen vehicles.
In total, 2,405 vehicles were seized under the DP Act. Furthermore, 542 individuals were arrested under preventive sections of the BNSS, while 2,516 were taken into preventive custody.
Over 23,000 individuals were detained under Section 65 of the DP Act, with 4,857 violators prosecuted under COTPA.
Notable arrests included the dismantling of a Tramadol supply racket in Narela, the apprehension of two Nepalese nationals with 2 kg charas in Sarita Vihar, and the recovery of nearly 2 kg opium and 109 gm heroin from two individuals in Ghazipur.
Officials from the police stated that Operation Kavach has compelled major traffickers to relocate their operations outside Delhi and has notably curtailed the movement of bulk drugs into the city.
