New Delhi, May 7 (NationPress) Domestic airlines faced numerous cancellations and delays for flights to and from Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday, following the successful execution of ‘Operation Sindoor’ by the Indian Army. This operation targeted nine significant terror sites deep within Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
In light of the current circumstances, Air India announced the cancellation of all flights to and from several destinations, including Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Chandigarh, and Rajkot until noon on May 7, awaiting further updates from authorities.
A spokesperson from the airline mentioned, “Two international flights destined for Amritsar are being redirected to Delhi. We apologize for the inconvenience caused by this unexpected disruption.”
Low-cost airline IndiGo stated that further to their previous communication and in response to the ongoing situation, flights to/from Srinagar, Jammu, Amritsar, Leh, Chandigarh, Dharamshala, Bikaner, and Jodhpur have been cancelled for the day.
The airline advised, “We expect alterations in flight schedules throughout our network and strongly encourage all passengers to verify their flight status before proceeding to the airport. We are committed to keeping you updated on any further developments.”
Additionally, SpiceJet announced that their operations in parts of northern India, including Dharamshala, Leh, Jammu, Srinagar, and Amritsar, have been affected due to the current situation.
“Due to the ongoing situation, airports in northern India, including Dharamshala (DHM), Leh (IXL), Jammu (IXJ), Srinagar (SXR), and Amritsar (ATQ), are closed until further notice. Flights may be disrupted. Passengers are urged to plan accordingly and check flight statuses,” said SpiceJet in a statement on X.
Operation Sindoor was meticulously executed, aiming at terrorist infrastructure linked to groups responsible for the attack.
The Indian government confirmed that all nine targets were effectively struck, ensuring no civilian or military infrastructure in Pakistan was affected.
These strikes were a direct response to the terror attack on April 22 that resulted in the deaths of 25 Indians and one Nepali national in Jammu and Kashmir.
